Recently, our Editor-in-Chief got a chance to speak with Mr. Mickey Quah, the President & CEO of CareFood, a Malaysian manufacturer and exporter of authentic Asian sauces. He candidly discussed his vision for the company and the international markets this company has been serving for quite some time now. Following is a transcript of our discussion with him. Please feel free to send any comments/questions you may have regarding their products and services.
Q:- Could you please let me know a bit about yourself, your company background?
Ans: I was a corporate executive for about 15 years working in the Petroleum Industry and then in the oil palm industry before I came out on my own. I developed my company from scratch with no expertise and knowledge of food processing. This was 30 years ago, and today, we are mainly in the export market with over 350 sauces to cater to most of the Asian Restaurant menus. Besides being halal certified, we are also certified in HACCP, ISO, and GMP thus meeting all the International Quality Standards for food production..
Q:- What are the products/services your company has been providing to your customers and for how much time?
Ans:- We offer a wide range of sauces like curries, chili sauces, marinades, stir-fries, salad dressings, pasta sauces ,soup bases, dips , etc to cater for the HORECA market as well as Retail packed sauces for the modern housewife, and ambient ready meals like Rice noodles in soup or sauce, Mixed vegetable soups, and Konjac noodles which are simple, quick and convenient to prepare. We have been in this business for 30 years.
Q:- Which countries are you already offering your products/services to?
Ans:- We are currently exporting to Singapore, Japan, Canada, the UK, USA, and China
Q:- Which countries do you plan to find new customers from or what are your plans for global expansion?
Ans:- For our products, the whole world is our market. There are many more markets for us to address, like the Middle East, Europe, Australia, and India, among others. We are launching new products this October at the ANUGA food show in Koln, Germany, and will be presenting our company and products to an audience from 21 countries in Chicago as a finalist for the Global Award from the International Trade Council. For 2020, We have already registered for MIHAS 2020, the largest Halal exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Q:- Why should customers choose you as a business partner instead of any other company?
Ans:- In our opinion, we think it’s the quality of our products as well as the credibility of our business. We have been a certified Halal factory from day one and we have all the International quality certifications to endorse our quality. The fact that one of the largest sauce manufacturers in Japan has decided to work with us to develop Halal Japanese sauces in our factory speaks volumes about our quality standards. We have been in collaboration with them for Halal Japanese food development and production for 7 years now. Also, another key factor is that our products are wholesome and authentic, preservative-free, with no synthetic colors and flavors, no trans-fat, and no GMO
Q:- Would you like to give any message to your potential business partners or customers in foreign countries? If yes, what would that be?
Ans:– In the food business, we are here for the long haul. It is not a “ hit and runs “ business. We are here to produce Healthy Halal Food for the long term. We are certainly looking for customers and business who share our vision of good, clean and safe Halal food for years to come.
